The Scoville Scale is named after the American Pharmacist Wilbur Scoville, who developed a quantitative test to measure capsaicin content of chilis. He developed his Scovile Organoleptic Test in 1912. Since this chart was created over a year ago, many chili varieties hotter than the Ghost Chile have been verified, including the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and the Naga Viper, both measuring over a million units on the Scoville Scale.
